Proofreading Manual

This page is still under construction.

Proofreading tasks can be accessed in the same way as translation tasks. When you click on a sentence, you will be able to correct the translation if this proves to be necessary.

When is it necessary to edit a sentence when you are proofreading?

  1. Spelling errors

When you are proofreading, you should mainly be checking for spelling mistakes. Common spelling mistakes are:

  • Mixed or missing letters
  • Capitals
  • Interpunction
  • All those special spelling rules that you should know by heart

If a task contains more than 4 spelling mistakes, please contact us.

  1. Grammatical errors

Even very diligent translators can make grammatical errors. Common grammatical mistakes include:

  • Subject-verb agreement
  • Odd syntax
  • Inconsistent verb tenses

Should you encounter more than 2 grammatical errors, please contact us.

  1. Mistranslations

Mistranslations can easily disturb the meaning of a text. Usually, mistranslations are too literal, or caused by false friends. Should you see more than 3 mistranslations, please contact us.

  1. Stylistic errors

When you are proofreading, we also ask you to check if the instructions from the style guide and the glossary have been applied. Should you see that either the style guide or the glossary have been ignored more than 1 time, please contact us.

Apart from that, we ask you to check the style of the text if it is mentioned in the task description:
